Lepenitsa Cave

Lepenitsa Cave opens doors for visitors on Saturday, 11th of September.

Grand Hotel Velingrad guests have the unique chance to be the be among the first visitors of the cave. The official opening is on Saturday, at 11:00.

Lepenitsa River passes inside the cave, which has several floors. Internal lakes have formed in some of the halls.

The cave’s length is 1525 m, most of which have been explored. Scientists discovered inside cave pearls. These were taken to the National Museum of Natural History in Sofia.

Nearly 20 animal species inhabit the cave. More than eight types of bats live there.

Lepenitsa was named a nature landmark in 1962, which puts the cave’s territory under protection.
